When a person has a passion for something in life, it shines through, and this is true for Robyn and her love of sewing. Most importantly she loves sharing the knowledge of sewing she gains with others.
When you talk of sewing, or your desire to want to learn to sew, Robyn has you swept away with her enthusiasm.
She started her passion at a young age when she wanted to try her mum’s sewing machine and have a go herself. Being encouraged by her mother and her Year 4/5 school teacher, heightened Robyn’s interest in this craft. Training in all sorts of classes at every possible opportunity, accentuated her knowledge over the many years. She credits it to the lovely teachers and students sharing their knowledge and experiences with her. “This is how we learn”, she said, “by the experiences we are exposed to, and everyone can learn something from someone else”. This is an ongoing process for her, as you never stop learning.
After having her family (four sons), Robyn began in 1989 helping out at the local Bernina store instructing Appliqué classes to willing participants. This led her to complete CN404 Instructional Skills Certificate in 1992.
๏Tackling upholstery work for a caravan sales yard from 1989 – 1992, taught her additional skills.
๏Robyn furthered her education in 1998 by completing Certificate II in Fashion Studies.
๏During 1990 Robyn took on repairs and alterations and manufactured uniforms.
๏Robyn studied Certificate iv in Clothing Production in 2003 which heightened her passion for more knowledge.
๏In 2006/2007 Robyn became a qualified Palmer/Pletsch Fit, Pant & Tailoring Instructor. She upgraded her qualifications in 2009, when she attended the Palmer/Pletsch courses in Portland, Oregon.
๏During 2005 - 2011 Robyn has taught “Patternmaking & Sewing” at two of our local TAFEs.
๏2008 saw Robyn open her home-based studio to accommodate students in the northern region, while still holding classes through the local Bernina store where it all started. Some students have attended from districts including Thursday Island, Mackay and Atherton Tableland regions,
๏Robyn is a proud member of the Australian Sewing Guild Inc. where the art of fine sewing is still taught and shared nationwide. (click the Australian Sewing Guild link provided)
NOTE: We all have different styles of learning, and there are different ways to learn the same task. Robyn encourages students to try different styles to gauge what is more appropriate for individual needs.
Join Robyn and her students and have fun on your creative learning journey.
